Limited to 6 participants
Springtime at its Finest!
Southern Florida is well known for its diverse group of birds, many of which are relatively tame subjects. We’ll be based out of the Fort Myers area on the Gulf of Mexico and travel to various locales as we target the wonders of spring. We’ll be greeted with dazzling shorebirds in breeding plumage, rookeries full of herons, egrets, and other wading birds, nesting Burrowing Owls, and loads of other species.
We have chosen a time when spring will be bursting forth. Many birds species will be looking their best at this time of year and we’ll be sure to take advantage of the plentiful subjects. We’ll hit a variety of habitats from saltwater flats to freshwater swamps, to woodlands and fields. Many species will be engrossed in breeding activities and this will offer us splendid opportunities for Osprey, Brown Pelicans, Anhingas, herons, egrets, Wood Storks, Burrowing Owls, various shorebirds, Roseate Spoonbills and possibly White Pelicans, Gopher Tortoises and nesting Bald Eagles. We’ll also surround you with stunning scenery to make your photos truly shine.
As important as the photographic subjects are, we also offer exceptional instruction during this workshop. Class size is limited to 6 participants and Robert will be spending his time in the field helping you make the most of your opportunities, not taking shots for his own portfolio. Each day will begin and end with a field session, but there will also be one or two daily classroom sessions that teach techniques and skills pertinent to the trip. Some of the topics that will be covered include: how to photograph birds in the water, biology of wading birds, how to compose bird photographs, camera settings, post-processing, and flight photography.
Requirements: Most of the birds we will be working with are fairly tame and approachable. Because of this, a 400mm lens will suffice for most situations but further reach or a teleconverter will come in handy. We will have moderate walks over flat and even ground at most of our locations. Days will be long (starting before sunrise and ending after sunset), but will be packed with fun, excitement, photography, and learning. This workshop is ideally suited for photographers interested in learning the skills and secrets of bird photography.
Participants are responsible for their own lodging in the Fort Myers, FL area, ground transportation, and the modest park entrance fees. The workshop price is $850, and a deposit of $250 is required to reserve a spot. Please see our refund policy for refund details. We hope you can join us as we capture the diverse birdlife of Florida in the springtime!
